1. Gee, all you moderate Bush voting jerks?
Like a Scalia court now? Wait till you get a load of this a-hole. Bush LOVES him.

I don't think you got my drift. That was a NEGATIVE to have Scalia
as Chief Justice!

7. Sweetie, I know ...
Believe me. This guy is Mel Gibson without the ever more tenuous grip on reality.

But I tried and tried to bring up the SC to my repuke leaning friends. They just shrugged and said "That's what you said in 2000 and Bush hasn't appointed anyone."

Saying "I told ya so" is the petty consulation I have now. Sorry for indulging.

13. Correction for Freeptards.
The only reason shrubby wasn't able to appoint any of his favorite rightwing extremists to the bench is because the Dems and even some of the moderates within his own party had the good sense to say NO to the neanderthal mofo nominees. It was NOT because shrubby was reasonable.

4. This pre-lawyer doesn't think that it could get any worse.
Correct me if I'm wrong, DU lawyers. I used to amaze my buddy in class by guessing how the opinion would turn out just by reading the name at the top. All of the decisions toe the party line.

And Tony the Fixer, a proud member of both Opus Dei and the Federalist Society (wingnut legal society), will go along with the 'strict constructionist' baloney (translation: get rid of every recognized fundamental right possible.

5. He is dying
Probably anaplastic thyroid cancer, they typically live a few months. Bush will nominate some radical right winger and place Scalia in the top spot. The damage this court will cause is incalculable.

6. The SCOTUS was/is the real prize of any modern election.
We can argue all we want about terrr & abortion & fag weddings. But, the only thing a president can do by himself is appoint to the SCOTUS.

And we are fucked for the rest of my life, and anyone who's older than 40 is fucked for the rest of their lives.

9. Clarence it is
He's a worm and thus can be easily-controlled by the repubes. Can you imagine Scalia crowning himself King and telling the chimp to piss off? I can too, and so can the chimp (well, at least Rove can).

11. Considering SCOTUS ages, we are screwed
Stevens is 84. Rehnquist is 80. Ginsberg is 71, the others are mid-late 60's and Thomas is 56.

I thing Rehnquist's cancer is aggressive for his age. It doesn't sound good. I'd expect him to retire.

The only way we have any influence is hoping that the Dems take back the Senate and the House in 2006. I pray for the good health of the SCOTUS till at least then. With the Pugs controlling Congress and 1600 Pennsylvania, we are literally screwed if any appointments take place in 2005-2007.

12. A Bad Date !
This is a true story. My motheris also 80 years old and graduated from Shorewood High School and The Chief Justice was a classmate of hers. It is her all time favorite story that she turned him down for a date to the Junior Prom because he was such a nerd and "the weird kid" who carried a briefcase to school.

14. Ashcroft will replace Rehnquist
Rehnquist steps down due to ill health, Scalia slides over to Chief Justice and Ashcroft gets the nod.
