Smirk - Trait?
Is the smirk a characteristic trait shared by Bush and all his followers.

Before the election, I got in a discussion with one of my in-laws-a Bush follower.

He bought the line "Democracy is on the march" from the Bush campaign.

1) Democracy is not on the march. The only two countries Bush gave as an example are Iraq and Afghanistan. If they ever become democratic it is because the US military is there.

2) Even if Iraq becomes a democratic country, which it probably will not, it does not mean the Middle East would become democratic. Each Muslim country has their own unique history and culture. In fact, domino theories did not work in Vietnam and they will not work here. Vietnam fell to the Communists but all of Southeast Asia did not as the Domino theorists predicted.

3) Even if Iraq becomes a democratic country, it does not prevent them from invading Iran or Kuwait. As Chomsky has pointed out, there is no relationship between the way a society treats its citizens internally and they way it treats the world. History is full of examples of this.

So what was his response to all these arguments. A smirk.

1. Transition
In the next few months the smirk will morph into a knowing and serene smile. Or at least that is what we will be told on CNN. :)

2. Of course,
knowing that he has screwed over the country and will continue to do so. He will smile and say, "Ain't it great that I can be a president and an a-hole?"

3. I Can't Tell A Smirk From A Smile
But there is a certain strut that will be emulated by his loyal followers:

We all need to get ready for the season of the two-legged red-faced Republican sore winner. They will pick any characteristic they don't like in us and point their bony finger and say, “that's why you lost”

It’s only been three days and I'm already weary of this line.
