Does shrub have firm control of the bumpkin vote?
Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 05:12 PM by lfairban
I remember seeing the election results by county, showing the ones that Kerry won and the ones in which Bush had a majority. It looks like the rural vote went to Shrub and cities were taken by Kerry.

I also found on another post a table of how the states voted sorted by average IQ:

It is quite remarkable.

The question is how do we as democrats communicate with these people?

From dictionary.com:

bump·kin: An awkward, unsophisticated person; a yokel. Perhaps from Flemish boomken, shrub, diminutive of boom, tree

2. You could start
by evaluating how you talk about them. How would you respond to a party whose members talked about you like that?

5. I would dismiss them as being uninformed.

If they characterized the Democrats as being ignorant or unsophisticated, I would think they are wrong because that does not agree with the information I have seen. It would be just as ulterior to characterize Bush supporters as intelligent.

The right wing tries to depict itself as having higher moral values and Christian ethics. They seem to have had a certain amount of success. I on the other hand oppose them because of what I was taught being brought up in a Christian Church.

I assume what you are saying is that we would have a better chance if we were not as negative as the other side. That is, I believe, what Kerry though.

I noticed another thread called, " "Stop ridiculing us!!!" cry heartland Republicans!!!!". When I hear that characterization "heartland", it immediately translates in my mind to "bumpkin", maybe because I grew up in a rural area.

From reply #3, Here’s Maher on the South:

I'm sorry, but responding only to people who look and sound like you is small-minded. So if Southerners don't want to have an inferiority complex, I say, stop doing things that make reasonable people think you're inferior. Like getting rid of slavery was a good start. But don't stop there. Stop being the place that's always challenging the theory of evolution.

Whenever I try to see things from their viewpoint, the cognitive dissonance causes pain, so I avoid it.

"The question is how do we as democrats communicate with these people?"

I don't care to communicate with the intellectual midgets of the red states. There is no dialogue since they haven't the maturity to express their thoughts without stooping to personal insults and stereotypes.

Yeah yeah yeah. You might say the term I have just used in reference to them is a "personal insult" as well, right? But unlike them, I do not feel or claim a sense of moral superiority. :)
