There was a story a while back about Eastern European fashion models traveling to India to take jobs for much less than the going rate. Some Indian models were not happy about the new competition.
On edit, here is a story on it...
Some Indian models voiced their concerns at the IFW. "Using foreigners in ads just for the heck of it adds to the misery of upcoming models," said Rajat Raina. Another top model, Meher Bhasin, who runs a grooming school for upcoming models, said, "Foreigners are fair and that's what makes them become hot property."
Some Indian models complain that several impoverished Eastern European girls too are doing the rounds, charging little, thus undercutting the income of regular professional models. "Most of the foreigners are not serious about making a career here, but they land plum jobs," said Upen Patel, who modeled for Raymond until he was replaced by Blair. http://www.atimes.com/atimes/South_Asia/FH06Df04.html
