Perhaps meaningless as to the US's economic health is the "great" 5% UE rate and all those pretend new jobs that are stay at home folks that year after year are just not getting around to paying a payroll tax (otherwise we would not have to add them back - all prior increases in the pretend birth/death number - each month to the payroll tax numbers - and of course without the growth in the pretend folks that year after year never pay that payroll tax, Bush does not have ANY job growth - and remove new gov jobs under Bush and the private sector is in a hell of a recession - but we will not talk about that).
Perhaps better as a measure of economic health is that old labor demand measure of total hours worked in the economy . While employment is above its pre-recession peak, total hours worked is still 1.4 percent below its pre-recession peak
