After seven weeks of testimony, attorneys laid out closing arguments Wednesday in a case in which 11 pipefitters are suing Fluor Federal Services, claiming the company laid them off for speaking up about safety concerns.
Jack Sheridan, the pipefitters' attorney, painted Fluor as a mega company that cares more about safety reports than safety and said Fluor managers did not follow company protocol when his clients were laid off. <snip>
The case was filed six years ago, but has been delayed by appeals that took it all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
In 1997, a crew of seven pipefitters at what is now Fluor Federal Services objected when they were told to install a valve rated for 1,975 pounds per square inch for a test of radioactive waste pipes that needed to withstand 2,235 pounds per square inch. <snip>
