London, England (BANG) - Britain's Queen Elizabeth is reportedly pursuing the administrators of Icelandic bank Kaupthing for unpaid rent. The 82-year-old royal's estate is in talks to recoup money after the bank allegedly stopped paying the $2.8 million-a-year rent on its offices in London's West End.
A spokesman for the Crown Estate said: "Following the announcement on October 8, 2008, that parts of Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander's business had been put into administration, we have met, without prejudice, with the Administrators regarding their plans for the property. Discussions are ongoing."
The spokesman would not comment on the exact figure owed, but confirmed the bank rented 93,000sq ft of office space at 1 Hanover Street.
The Crown Estate has a $8.6 billion property portfolio - including many of Britain's finest buildings, forests and coastlines - which is managed by a board the queen appoints with the British Prime Minister.
Last year it made $304 million in profits. The queen is estimated to have lost around $36 million due to the ongoing world financial crisis.
