What about the inventory tax?

Anyone have any idea what the "supposed" reason would be for businesses to be paying a LOWER inventory tax? I'm talking about the reason given for public consumption.

1. the property tax on warehousing operations is being repealed in most

places.

To the extent it is/was a local property tax, the town did/could have used the monies for schools. To the extent it was a State property tax, perhaps the state had a tradition - if not a law - that said aid to towns was tied to the take on this property tax.

The key policy reason to kill the tax is to encourage warehouse operations to come to the area.

Since warehouse operations do not seem to be moving all that much - I suspect to it is pay back to local business folks (your tax wording may even have gas stations paying on their inventory based on fuel on hand on a certain date - say 12/31)
