House Considering Reinstating Glass-Steagall

There is an Action Item over on The Economic Populist to call your House Representatives and demand they reinstate Glass-Steagall.

This is in response to reports that House leadership, Hoyer, are in discussions about reinstating Glass-Steagall. We need your voice to
push them over the edge and get the House to bring it up for a vote, to actually do it instead of just talking about it.

Glass-Steagall was repealed in 1999 and is attributed as one of the main causes of the financial crisis. The Act forces separation of investment banking from commercial banking and for good reason, to avoid a collapse of the banks.

Please help out and call your House Representatives to do this much needed reform (which was completely missing from the recent House financial reform bill passed).

is the current reforms. If they just say "reinstate Glass-Steagall", no other changes, we might get something not littered with loopholes.

You know the drill. Can some one bring it up on the floor or do they have to go through the sub- committee to keep stuff unresolved in a bipartisan way prior to going to the committee that collects campaign contributions?

I know he is abhorrent and why these idiots think somehow they can regulate women's private parts is beyond me....

but shock of all shocks, he introduced a couple of amendments in the House Financial reform bill, which of course were voted down,
that would have actually strengthened transparency for derivatives trading (which is now so full of holes, it's almost a "for show" and why bother")

So, I know and why the insanity against women yet you get some good financial amendments is beyond me, but there ya have it.

6. This is an absolutely must do.

No more mega financial institutions. Small, locally-owned banks and credit unions are the way to go. You get the personal touch, competition in the marketplace, and more diversity.
