TARP
How much of the original TARP fund has been used, and how much returned by the recipients. If there has been a balance left over, for what purpose can it be used. I know it would have to be borrowed, but is that worse than using it to stimulate the economy?

1. TARP was the rich-people bailout. The rich people's agents will demand more when they want it. nt

2. It cost something like $700 billion. Here's an article about how well it's being paid back.

3. TARP is only a small part of what is the bailout....
TARP was 700 bilion, and less than 100 billion remains to be paid back. However TARP was just one of a number of programs, shown on this list at Nomi Prins site here. (She was a managing director at Goldman and in charge of an international desk at Bear-Stearns so she was in a good position to know the details of what went and has gone on). A good portion of TARP has been paid back. But the total size of the bailout, taxpayer money set aside to resolve the problems caused by the 6 largest banks, was abut $$15 trillion at its height. Some of those programs have appeared and finished, so the current size is $7 Trillion. The book "Bailout Nation" indicates that about $3.3 trillion wwas designed as payments, not loans, and will be kept by the people at those firms or their investors.
