European Bank Run Day met by "mysterious" Irish bank shut down.
This is the day on which Europe-wide "bank runs" were called and supposed to take place.

but guess what?

"One of the Irish Republic's biggest banks has issued an apology to customers after a systems failure meant that, for a time, they were unable to access their cash accounts.

Bank of Ireland said it became aware at 1000 GMT on Tuesday that ATMs were not working and customers were unable to make online transactions.

People with Post Office savings accounts in the UK were also affected.

A spokesperson said the fault had been largely rectified.

However, the amount of cash that can be withdrawn via ATMs may be restricted."

Bank cards did not work in stores, either.

2. 'Zactly what I have been thinking for some time.
My advice to my "kids" is to have money stashed away, preferably in small bills.

Actually, couple months ago, the whole county lost puter power, on a Friday at noon.
Payday.
It was amazing to watch the reaction when no one could deposit checks, shop for groceries without cash, etc.
Lasted till late that night.
No personal puters, no ATMS, no card swipes, nothing.

Talking to folks later, it was clear they had not thought much past that one incident.
