I would buy it right now if it paid some dividend.

2. We're back in recession.
I wouldn't be surprised if they went bankrupt again.

9. You don't like the adage "when blood is in the streets"?
I know markets are vulnerable to panic selling. Especially now
with double dip recession a possibility and European banks under
stress with risky loans to countries like Greece, Portugal, Spain etc.

But prices of many blue chip stocks are looking attractive. So greed
is trying hard to take over my mind.

Anyway if I buy now, it will be long term hold (3 to 4 years).

13. GG I tend to agree.
I think stocks are a good buy. I like Apple (no div but tons of cash) JNJ , WMT, PM, COP and MCD. Why get a 10 year bond that pays 2% when you can get stock in a great company that can raise prices if/when inflation rears its ugly head and it pays a dividend that beats the 10 year? Oh and it can appreciate and even increase the dividend!

7. Not terribly relevant...
..but I'll toss it in anyway.

"One of great urban myths of American business history is that the head of GM once said “what’s good for General Motors is good for America.”
That line is once again getting a lot of press today. There’s one problem — it’s not true.
Here’s what happened. In 1953, President Eisenhower nominated GM’s CEO Charles “Engine Charlie” Wilson to be Secretary of Defense. I’ll turn it over to Wikipedia:
During the hearings, when asked if as secretary of defense he could make a decision adverse to the interests of General Motors, Wilson answered affirmatively but added that he could not conceive of such a situation 'because for years I thought what was good for the country was good for General Motors and vice versa.'"

12. Stay out of the stock market until November.
Sept and Oct are usually the worst months for stocks.
