Chandler residents want financial incentives for their "green" building projects and help in overcoming homeowners association rules that restrict them.
The city is listening and will likely propose permit fee reductions for environmentally friendly construction and more neighborhood education programs, according to drafts that will be distributed at the General Plan Update Citizens Oversight Committee meeting Tuesday, Jan. 8. The 6:30 p.m. session is at Chandler Municipal Airport, 2380 S. Stinson Way.
Suggestions came from a community green-building forum in November and a new municipal Green Building Task Force.
A state law that went into effect this past September makes it easier for homeowners to install solar devices without HOA interference. But some Chandler residents say they're still having difficulty getting their associations' approval for solar projects and fear neighborhood rules may block other environmentally friendly construction and landscaping.
