Diesel spike means rough times for seafood sales
Even a decent haul of fish can mean a loss, once fuel is paid for and the crew gets its share. Raising the price of the fish barely softens the blow. Even a 29 percent boost falls short of the spike in fuel prices.

1. They need to pass the cost to the consumer. Seafood prices are
way too low. nt

2. You think so?
That's pretty narrow minded in my opinion and if you raise the prices above market demand then you'll sell less. People are already cutting back on food to pay their own massive gas bills.

3. And that's why we're in checkmate.
They can raise their prices, in which case the eventual result is fewer fishermen selling to fewer customers, or they can try to play mexican-standoff with old prices, and see who goes out of business first. In that case, the end result is exactly the same: fewer fishermen selling to fewer customers.

The trucking/transportation industry is in exactly the same state of checkmate. Five years from now, there are going to be fewer truckers in business. One way or another.

4. The oceans could stand a bit less fishing as it is.
What we have here is an UNWORKABLE situation. We are running smack up against LIMITS - physical, biological, and financial LIMITS.

I know, some Americans don't believe in limits because we are SPECIAL in some way........

5. We are "SPECIAL"
Have you noticed how the politicians and the media are blaming and demonizing all the foreign nations whose people are now rising out of poverty? "It's all China's and India's fault that we're paying higher prices and there's shortages, etc." How dare those countries have a middle-class and have a higher quality of life at our expense :sarcasm:

6. Man, I just LOOOOVE those toxic-farmed Thai shrimp!
You mean I am going to have to cut back on my food that travels the furthest food possibly can to make it to my table?

Bummer!

Monkey NEED shrimp!
