Americans are too Fat for present sized Coffins.
As Americans get fatter, caskets, burial plots, even hearses must get bigger

By Warren St. John

THE NEW YORK TIMES

Sunday, September 28, 2003

Perhaps nowhere is the issue of obesity in America more vividly illustrated than at Goliath Casket of Lynn, Ind., specialty manufacturers of oversize coffins.

There, one can see a triple-wide coffin -- 44 inches across, compared with 24 inches for a standard model. With extra bracing, reinforced hinges and handles, the triple-wide is designed to handle 700 pounds without losing what the euphemism-happy funeral industry calls its "integrity."

.

This story says it all about this great land. A nation too fat to fit
into a coffin is doomed to rot out in the open.

2. Yeah, but...
They still have to put a bigger box into the oven.

5. Does there need to be a box at all for cremation?
I'm utterly ignorant on the subject, but I do know one can actually "rent" an ornate casket for a viewing, then have the cremation done with a basic box. But is there really a safety/efficiency/whatever reason for having that box at all?

6. A box saves on the cleaning bill for the crematorium ...
On the other hand, if you are just going to burn the contents, why
worry about laying them out tidily? As long as a regular rectangular
box will fit in the oven, all that matters is the total volume.
Everything else is a simple exercise in packing.
Why try burning the empty space around the corpse when it could be
a 100% meat-filled package?

Slice, dice then roast for 20 minutes (or until done)! :-)

8. I agree...howabout just a nice body bag?
Someone could make some nice drawstring bodybags
in different colors...a waste of wood IMO.
