Waxman Sends Polluters a Message as Industry Climate Proposal Falls Flat
Rep. Henry Waxman, in his new role as chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, whipped the rug out from under the U.S. Climate Action Partnership (U.S. CAP) before the group even had a chance to present its climate action recommendations this morning. By doing so, he sent corporate polluters a clear message that he means business:

“Our Committee will be acting quickly and decisively to reduce global warming and end our dependence on foreign oil. …The legislation must be based on the science and meet the very serious threats we face.”
Waxman said he wants a comprehensive, science-based bill on climate and energy through his committee by the Memorial Day recess.

Update:
Another industry group called BICEP -- founded by Levi Strauss & Co., Nike, Starbucks, Sun Microsystems and The Timberland Company -- just released its own statement on the U.S. CAP proposal. In very polite language, the group is flexing its muscles, showing how its proposals go much farther than U.S. CAP's.
