Breaking: Senator Boxer (D-CA) announces no global warming legislation in 2009
Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, held a press conference this morning to release her principles for global warming legislation (PDF). At the press conference, Boxer laid out a timetable that wouldn't see a climate change bill passed until early 2010.

4. Well, the way things are going it's probably all pointless anyway.
That snowball took off down the mountain a while back. We have already fucked up Planet Earth to the point where most higher life forms are doomed.

10. Taking no action is not an option.
If we take action, we may easily not be completely successful.

We have the ability to make matters much worse. We also have the ability to make things better than they would be with no action.

If you care about future generations, and other species, inaction is just not acceptable.

6. “Obama can get a better climate bill in 2010. Here’s how.” - Joe Romm, Climate Progress
This timetable should be no surprise to CP readers. As I’ve said for a while, Obama should realize a 2009 bill is not possible, make lemon out of lemonade, and use this year to build domestic support for the bill, take strong actions on energy and climate that don’t require congressional approval, and engage in high-level climate negotiations with China (see “Obama can get a better climate bill in 2010. Here’s how.” and “Does a serious bill need action from China?“).
