A warming trend?

This week's spring-like weather shows upward temperature trends

Even though this week's 70-degree temperatures were hardly a summer scorcher, for Julie Kalin, of Maryville, the warmer weather was just excuse to get her son, Alex, 4, outdoors following a winter of bitter, icy weather.

"It's a little windy," she said Monday at Woodland Park, when temperatures topped 71 degrees.

But while jacket-and-shorts weather is a nice perk in normally frigid February, she said, it does raise some concerns.

"It actually seems a little scarier to me. I like it, but I don't know if it's the best thing for the environment," Kalin said.

1. My concern is the wild swings in temp.
It's 20 here one day and 60 the next. Tomorrow will be back in the 30's.

3. And the temperature swings mean wild winds
I don't remember having winds like we've had the past few years. It seems the winds get stronger, and the incidents more frequent.

2. it's 70 in Arlington today, & last week we had 2 inches of snow
I'm afraid for my perennials to start growing, like they'll think it's suddenly April, then get frozen to death. Maybe the plants are smarter than I think they are though.

4. At least she doesn't have to deal with tornadoes in Feb.
Like the people of Oklahoma did on Wedn. WTF!

Here in MN, it's 40F, sunny, windy, and our once-decent snowcover is almost gone. Barring any sudden blizzards, it appears our winter is largely over.
