WHAT THE HELL IS IT WITH ALL THE "CLEAN" COAL ADS????
Does DU have no power or say over what ads appear on the Latest page of posts?

From DU alone I could collect a zillion threads on why "clean" coal is a crock

1. We will defeat clean coal with the ad revenue from clean coal!

2. Try living in West Virginia. They're freakin' everywhere.
They've replaced the "carbon-neutral coal" billboards, TV ads, newspaper ads, radio ads, propaganda pieces masquerading as journalism, etc....

Carbon-neutral carbon. Clean filth.

They clearly ain't figured out nobody's buying.

3. "They clearly ain't figured out nobody's buying."
You're not buying and I'm not buying, but it doesn't take much to convince someone who is already predisposed to believe their message.

4. Not a lot of people I've encountered here are buying.
It's not that the people who support the "clean" coal stuff think it will actually work; it's that there is a segment of people who stand to lose good-paying jobs with no alternative available if coal is no longer an energy source. They'll push any meme that will keep them employed.

Think going from $50k+ a year to minimum wage. Those folks will hang their hat on anything that will keep their jobs intact, and I can't say I blame them, as much as I disagree with them.

5. You know… I thought Gore would beat Bush
Simply because I didn't know anyone who said they were planning to vote for Bush.

8. I wouldn't assume everyone at DU understands about clean coal -- there are LOTS of ...
participants who are only peripheral, and may have never read a single thread on the subject. Remember that this is the MOST HEAVILY TRAFFICKED political site anywhere.

Do you really think that there aren't at least SOME people here that are confused about "clean" coal? Doesn't it confuse DU's message?

9. I agree
There are many shades of thought on "clean coal" even among posters in this forum.

One goal of this advertising is to clean up coal's reputation. (God knows it's easier than cleaning up coal.) "Look Martha! They've got 'Clean Coal' now! Turn up the AC!"

No doubt, we'll have a couple of "clean coal plants" built. "Looky see!?" Disaster averted! burn all the coal you want!

7. Other shoe just dropped -- John Coleman ad on MSNBC

An outright hate-radio-style monologue railing against the "scam" of global warming.
