'Crazy ideas ' to fight global warming revealed by scientists

Covering Greenland in blankets to stop the ice sheets melting, "tree bombs" to regenerate forests and sending a giant sunshade into space are just some of the ideas being proposed by scientists to save the planet from global warming.

As further evidence emerges of the threat of climate change, scientists around the world are developing tools to try to stop the temperatures rising.

The science known as "geo-engineering" is considered dangerous by some for interfering with the world's delicate ecosystems, however advocates claim that it could "save the world" from catastrophic global warming.

A new series on Discovery Channel from this Sunday looks at some of the methods being proposed by scientists around the world.

Iain Riddick, series producer, said the scientists may have outlandish ideas but they are all respected in their field.

1. But how do we know that disturbing the Van Allen Belts with destroy the Earth,
unless we try it?

2. The main problem with these idea is
that, even if they were effective, and I'm certanily NOT implying that they wouldn't be, it would be impossible to convince the stupid, greedy homo sapiens to implement them until it was too late.

Maybe I'm wrong.

3. It's time for "crazy ideas" in a lot of fields of human endeavor...
Think outside the box.

Nuclear disarmament.

Why is the world still poised to trigger nuclear armageddon?

General disarmament.

Why is the world armed to the teeth?

Banning Republicans from public office.

Why are Republicans, who destroyed the U.S.A.--with deregulation, shredding the Constitution, mass slaughter in unjust, unnecessary war, at massive cost, and who engaged in torture, massive domestic spying, and massive theft, including the recent Financial 9/11--a legal political party?

Transparent vote counting.

Why are rightwing Republican corporations now 'counting' all our votes with 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code, with virtually no audit/recount controls?

Credit card amnesty.

Why is credit card usury continuing? Why not reduce the interest to 1% and extend minimum payments over, say, 30 years (like FHA mortgages)?

Ban all private money in political campaigns.

Why do you have to have a million dollars in hand to even think about running for Congress? It might take an amendment to the Constitution--to give the ban on private money equal status as the "law of the land" with the First Amendment--but it would be worth it. Enough with this mind-boggling corruption! Fini! End it!

Require 4-6 weeks of prime air time for public debate, before every election, as a condition of receiving a license to use our public airwaves.

It's time of us to have REAL public debate about our government, and all serious foreign and domestic issues. We, the people, own all the TV/radio airwaves and can place any conditions on their use that we deem in the public interest.

Tax credits (or outright grants) for every inch of your homeowner's yard, or apartment owner's grounds, or apartment/condo windowsills, devoted to growing vegetables or bee-friendly flowers. Small owners only (not for Big Ag). And no toxic pesticides.

Green things growing helps address global warming impacts. Global warming and other corporate/industrial impacts are threatening the world's food supply. Pesticides are gravely threatening the world's bee populations. Encourage home & communal gardens for food, and for re-'greening' the planet.

Ban corporate outsourcing of jobs to cheap foreign labor markets. Not just tax it. BAN it. Pull their corporate charters, dismantle them, and seize their assets for the common good.

Enough! Fini!

Ban "corporate personhood" by Constitutional amendment. No more "rights" for unaccountable corporate entities. Re-assert rightful public control over corporate charters. Limit their assets. Limit their multinational character. Limit their existence in time. Bust their monopolies.

This will encourage the real entrepreneurs--small businesses all across America. Corporations live forever--and accumulate vast property, wealth and power over time. Ordinary people cannot do this--because we die--and thus we are no match for eternal corporate powers. We need to equalize corporate vs. people power--or, better yet, give people power--democracy--the edge. So many laws support corporate power now--because they write our laws, appoint our judges, and buy our politicians--that only a general "law of the land" can address this situation. Corporations even now own and control our voting machines with 'TRADE SECRET' code--code that we are not permitted to review! Enough! Fini!

Legalize all drugs for adult use.

END the corrupt, failed, murderous, hugely expensive U.S. "war on drugs"! Totally wasted money. Put the money into small business startups, jobs, health care, schools, training, rehab where needed, and outright grants to help non-violent offenders re-start their lives (--$30-35,000 per year wasted on incarcerating non-violent offenders for long sentences, often in dreadful conditions--when that money could be used to rent/buy houses, buy cars, get a new wardrobe, attend school, learn new skills, start new businesses, help families with dependent children and elderly relatives, re-beautify communities, etc., etc., etc., etc.). Totally wasted money--police state/military boondoggle. PLUS anti-drug laws drive the price of illicit drugs through the roof, and are directly responsible for the crimes and gangsterism associated with illicit drug traffic. The "war on drugs" is also a wretched foreign policy that, in Colombia, for instance, has resulted in a narco-state rampant with rightwing death squads who are murdering--not drug traffickers (they are drug traffickers) but union leaders, political leftists, small peasant farmers, human rights workers, journalists and other innocents who threaten the narco-state. END IT! Legalize all drugs. Stop militarizing the problem and making it worse.

---------

Just some "crazy ideas," off the top of my head. I see that they're all political/governmental. But there are probably a lot of "crazy ideas" on the personal or community level that need to be voiced for consideration. It's time. We need lots and lots of "crazy ideas" to be able to find the best ideas for getting us out this goddamn, Bushwhack, U.S. corpo/fascist "empire" disaster that we are in the middle of.

4. what we're doing so far is the craziest..
but now we need worldwide scientific consensus and years of planning before we can even agree to do anything? :eyes:
Something radical is gonna have to be done, I'm afraid.
