Melbourne has experienced its driest start to the year on record, with just two millimetres of rain falling so far.
Senior meteorologist with the Bureau of Meteorology, Phil King, said Melbourne was also on track to have the least amount of rainfall during the first two months of the year.
"We have to go back to 1893 where we had a total of 11mm in the first two months. We are at 2.2mm, and we are unlikely to pick up much in the next week," he said. "We are really not expecting more than a couple of millimetres. It will be a struggle to make it to double figures," he said.
Mr King said it had been bad luck that large dumps of rain in New South Wales had missed Victoria.
