Obama Nominates Superfund Polluter Lawyer

I know, I know, just like with single-payer and war the President also never ran on a promise for a clean DOJ Environment Division.

:sarcasm: :sarcasm:

Obama Nominates Superfund Polluter Lawyer To Run DOJ Environment Division
Bedford, IN
GM cleanup of the Bedford Superfund site.

President Barack Obama has nominated a lawyer for the nation’s largest toxic polluters to run the enforcement of the nation’s environmental laws. On Tuesday, Obama “announced his intent to nominate” Ignacia S. Moreno to be Assistant Attorney General for the Environment and Natural Resources Division in the Department of Justice. Moreno, general counsel for that department during the Clinton administration, is now the corporate environmental counsel for General Electric, “America’s #1 Superfund Polluter“:

Number five in the Fortune 500 with revenues of $89.3 billion and earnings of $8.2 billion in 1997, General Electric has been a leader in the effort to roll back the Superfund law and stave off any requirements for full cleanup and restoration of sites they helped create.

3. He'll get the job
As long as the President doesn't come out and say how he "strongly" supports his choice for the position.

4. Brilliant Chess Move!
Don't you idiots see that this will confuse the polluters and lull them into a false sense of security? They will never see their crushing defeat until it is too late!!!

The final move when he destroys all pollution by his sagely tactical prowess will be soooo Sweeeet!

5. I hope you keep spamming the board with snarky reminders that Obama is a "brilliant" chess player.

Next time, try to couple it with "Change we can't believe in" for added effect.

9. I Will but only if you keep bullying people that harm your hero worship insecurities
I bet you will keep me going quite a while.

I hate the same bullshit I did when Bush was doing it.
I have no intention of brainwashing myself to love those things simply because your hero only does some of the same bullshit rather than all of it.

Sorry and GFYS

11. How many nominations is this now
that showed conflicts of interest, the cliched foxes guarding the hen houses? :wtf:

There was a RIAA lawyer for consumer protection.
I seem to recall a mining executive for land use management.
There is the whole herd of Goldman Sachs people running the top levels at the dept of the Treasury.
There was a defense contractor for a military procurement post.

Does anyone know of a list of these conflict appointments anywhere online?

12. I don't see a problem.
She is an advocate for her client. That's like finding fault when a criminal defense attorney is nominated to the position of prosecutor.

Her bio: Ignacia S. Moreno, Nominee for Assistant Attorney General, Environment and Natural Resources Division, Department of Justice

Ignacia S. Moreno is a leading practitioner in the field of environmental and natural resources law, with over 18 years of experience in the federal government and in private and corporate practice. She is currently Counsel, Corporate Environmental Programs at the General Electric Company, and serves pro bono as General Counsel to the Hispanic National Bar Association. President Clinton appointed Moreno to the Department of Justice, where she served first as Special Assistant (1994-95) and then as Principal Counsel (1996-2001) to the Assistant Attorney General for the Environment and Natural Resources Division. In these positions she provided advice and counsel to the Assistant Attorney General on a wide variety of matters, participated in management of the Division, led significant environmental enforcement initiatives, expanded and managed the Division’s international program, and represented the United States in international negotiations and litigation. While at the Department of Justice, Moreno received Special Commendations for Outstanding Service from the Environment and Natural Resources Division, two Bronze Medals from the Environmental Protection Agency for Outstanding Service, and a federal award for excellence in partnership-building. Moreno then joined Spriggs & Hollingsworth in Washington, D.C. where she specialized in environmental and mass tort litigation with an emphasis on science-based advocacy. Moreno began her career at Hogan & Hartson LLP in Washington, D.C. where she practiced with the firm’s environmental and litigation groups after graduating from the New York University School of Law. She currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the Center for International Environmental Law, the Board of Trustees for the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, and the Advisory Board for BNA’s Environmental Due Diligence Guide.

13. I feel bad that people with integrity who have been fighting the good fight all their careers
don't seem to stand a chance of getting hired by this administration.
Apparently people working for GE aren't too politicized, (despite how heavily involved in politics GE happens to be), but people working for the NRDC are.

Very disappointing.

Maybe crazy like fox.
Who would better know the tricks and scams to avoid compliance than someone who is apparently expert at it?
Just sayin'...
