Greek solar panel company plans Pa. facility

One thing that continues to bug me about these stories is that they are always foreign companies.

PHILADELPHIA – Gov. Ed Rendell says a Greek company that makes solar panels will open a new manufacturing facility along the Philadelphia waterfront.

Athens-based Heliosphera plans to open the plant in Philadelphia's redeveloped Navy Yard.

Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development spokesman Luke Webber says construction is expected to begin in summer or fall of 2010 and last 12 to 18 months.

Rendell says the new facility will create about 400 jobs in the city.

1. I know. I don't understand why US co's don't expand like this.

Maybe becasue the US execs are too greedy so foreigh co'/s are the only ones with the $$ to do it.

2. I would prefer if the owners were in the US but...

On balance if the manufacturing jobs are here;
and if the installation jobs are here;
and since the panels they produce will help to power EVs and reduce our balance of trade for petroleum;
and considering that the more money (from anywhere) that is invested in solar PV manufacturing the cheaper panels will become;
and since energy independence resides in the ability to buy an inexpensive home appliance that will serve most of the homeowner's energy needs for 30-40 years;

I really have no problem at all with it.
