Madagascar is home to some of the worlds strangest and most beautiful animals including lemurs, tenrecs, lizards, crocodiles and many species of tropical birds(51% are endemic which is the largest amount for any place in the world)-many of which are not found anywhere else in the world. New species continue to be discovered today but unfortunately many of these species, especially the animals that can be found nowhere else in the world, are at risk for extinction as deforestation and poaching continue. Poaching and the illegal animal trade is another risk for these species, many are being shipped alive or dead to be sold to the U.S or China mainly. Deforestation is so rampant in Madagascar that from space it looks as if the country is bleeding into the Indian Ocean from the dirt running from the rivers to the sea from erosion. Once these species are lost they will never be found on our earth ever again. To find out how to help or to get more info visit these cites:
