The UN panel, which by the way won a Nobel Peace Prize for it’s report, apparently made some enormous errors. There do do appear to be people of at either the UN or the Nobel Prize Committee, who actually read the reports they generate and give out prizes for.

The IPCC which released the report made two glaring errors. They said their prediction that Himalayan Glaciers would be gone by 2035 was based on a Consensus of experts. Instead it was based on an interview with one Indian scientist who denies the prediction.

Second the IPCC document said that the complete surface area of the Himalayan glaciers probably would go from 500, 000 sq Kilometers to 100,000. by 2035. There are only 33,000 sq kilometers now."

2. Ugh, I want to but I'm sort of a public figure in my community.

I have over 1000 fb friends and I don't want him to get away with pushing his RW talking points. I can usually shut him down on political and economic issues, but I'm not well-versed on environmental/energy issues and he loves to pull this denier crap.

3. First of all, there is no 'belief' in science.

You either understand it or you don't.

Second, the difference between science and 'belief' (aka religion) is that science changes according to new discoveries, while 'belief' is fixed in time. Nothing will ever change 'belief' because there's nothing rational about it.

In the real world, people make mistakes. Scientists make mistakes. That doesn't blow entire theories out of the water.

And finally, 'theory' in science doesn't mean what these cretins think it means. They think a 'theory' is a supposition or a guess. A 'theory' in science means an explanation about the physical world based on experimentation that is peer-reviewed and tested, observation, and logical reasoning.

But I doubt the cretin will get it, because it's obvious he doesn't understand much beyond what he's being spoon-fed by the right wing noise machine.

I'd be inclined to brush off the erroneous report as just that -- erroneous. Errors happen. (Suggesting that it was not in intentional mistake.)

What in the world is he thinking about "your science?" He comes off as an anti-intellectual fundy. "Your science," compared with "My Faith."

8. Yes, the scope of the report is pretty huge

it was designed to finally put the questions to rest, to assemble all the data in one place, so we could move on to mitigate the problems instead of continuing to argue whether they exist.

If you wanted some information on the IPCC report itself, wikipedia is a pretty good start. As it is supposed to be the size of four NYC telephone books, with thousands of datasets and hundreds of types of evidence, my approach would be to say, fine, lets throw out everything about glaciers if you think that's in doubt. There's a monumental amount of data left, all pointing in the same direction.

6. NASA has satellite photo proof. A handful of glaciers at the top

have actually been growing, but that's because the warming oceans have put more moisture into the air which truned into increased snow at the top. But all the glaciers at lower altitudes have been receding. I posted some links on an earlier post, I'll see if I can find them.

Right or wrong on the prediction, the fact is the Himalayan Glaciers are melting. They are melting at an increasing rate and it is due the burning of dirty fossil fuel

I have a neighbor who is an Aggie (need I say more) who likes to quote Fox and the EPA accountant who tried to debunk all the science that has been going on about what they love to call "global warming" and what they don't like to hear is "climate change". What we are talking about is climate change both warm and cold, but when you are dealing with people who only think with one side of their brain it is difficult. This is a wonderful site that has a lot of information and is run by real climate change scientists. I hope it will help you, I know it helps me.
