Mumbai, Mar 28 (PTI) Unit 6 of Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP-6) at Rawatbhata in Chittorgarh district has been synchronized to Northern Grid today, Nuclear Power Corporation (NPCIL) here said.
After the authorization from the Atomic Regulatory Board (AERB), the 19th nuclear power plant of the country was synchronized to the grid at 1.53 hrs, General Manager, Corporate Communications of NPCIL, Ranjit Kakde said.
RAPP-6 went critical (first chain reaction) on January 23 this year.
The unit power level of this 220 MW indigenous Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor will gradually be increased to full power after completion of mandatory tests to ascertain safety and reliability and the power will be shared by the beneficiaries of Northern electricity Region. It has been designed and built by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), a public sector undertaking under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).
