How China overtook the US in renewable energy
http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2010/mar/25/china-renewable-energy-pew-research

China has overtaken the US for the first time in a league table of investments in low-carbon energy among the G-20, according to a new report by not for profit group the Pew Charitable Trusts published this week.

The report found that despite an overall 6.6 per cent global decline in clean energy investments last year, China invested almost twice as much as the United States in clean energy during 2009.

But the US still leads in energy capacity. It's interesting for the UK too:
• third in overall clean energy investments
• fourth in five-year clean energy investment growth rate
• fifth in the percentage of total power it receives from clean energy sources – ahead of France, China and the US

<much more>

5. What solar energy package have we offered that the republicans blocked?
Please don't tell me cap and trade. China didn't need cap and trade to get their act together on this and we don't either.

6. Name something - anything - the Republicons have not obstructed

Why I reckon that in terms of solar energy, Republicons would if they could -- just to spite America and to further enrich their Corporate Oil Cronies -- oppose and obstruct Sunlight.

They have opposed renewable energy for decades - Reagan, Gingrich, Lott, Poppy, Shrub. multiple CA governors et al.

They killed the infant US solar inudustry that China now dominates

They killed infant US wind turbine industry that Denmark now dominates

They killed the infant US concentrating solar power industry that Spain now dominates

There are your green jobs folks

Fuck you GOP

11. Thanks for delivering the facts, jpak
I'm generally aware of republicon obstructionism, but it's always nice to see a Defender of Republicon Homlelanderism FAIL blown out of the water with a list of facts.

Republicons, in general, are opposed to just about everything positive and progressive. They cling to their Pollute, Exploit, and FAIL strategeries with astonishingly willful ignorance & arrogance.

America needs to move on without them...

2. No wonder: 'we' gave them the money to invest
By buying everything made in China we gave them the financial resources 'we' lost.

8. The major reason: the U.S. failed to enter the race.
But, then, it's hard to race without a right foot and lacking part of the left foot.

10. Interesting use of the word "overtook" - is that like
Edited on Thu Jul-29-10 12:23 PM by FBaggins
when the car that's currently in second place "overtakes" the lead car because it's currently going faster but half a lap down?

Wouldn't "overtake" actually involve passing?
