Caithness Energy Offers Oregon Residents $5K Not to Complain About Shepherds Flat Wind Farm Noise

Interesting tactic. It doesn't look like the best public relations move.


Caithness Energy, L.L.C. is reportedly offering Oregon residents a lot of money if they agree not to complain about excessive noise from wind turbines.

According to a New York Times report, the energy company is offering residents of Ione, Oregon $5,000 if they sign a waiver, or noise easement, agreeing not to complain about the noise levels created by the windmills.

3. Does Anybody Live Near Wind Turbines?

I don't. But since there seems to be an ongoing discussion about wind turbine noise and "wind turbine syndrome", I am curious to hear about the conditions from people that actually leave near turbines.

10. My utility has 3 demonstration turbines about 15-20 miles from where I live.

I was able to tour them through an environmental science class in high school, and they are really not that noisy. You just kind of hear a quiet 'whoosh'. They weren't audible from inside the bus, even with the engine turned off. The only time they ever had a noise complaint was when the fiberglass ripped on one of the blades.

5. I don't have any idea where this is in Oregon!!! But talk about Lighthouse noise..

Took a vacation along the Oregon coast and those damn lighthouses blare loud and long.
Seems to me if they can get used to those.....
