Koch Industries Donates $1 Million To Prop 23 Effort To Kill California Climate Law
This is pretty insidious. Major out-of-State oil interests are backing pretty much the entire Prop 23 initiative in California that is trying to kill climate legislation.

Now it has been revealed that Koch Industries is right in the mix as well.

1. I'm not exactly breaking new philosophy ground here, but...
that kind of corporate donation should simply be illegal and unconstitutional. Corporations should simply not be allowed to participate in the human discourse that is politics.

How one would draw the line between what constitutes "legitimate" expenditures on advertising, and "illegitimate" expenditures on politics, I'm not sure, but I do feel pretty sure it ought to be straightfoward to draw some kind of principled line that puts activity in the OP way on the wrong side of the line

2. I can't imagine that a dozen interested DUers,
holed up somewhere for a long weekend with PCs and a couple of kilos of coffee couldn't knock out a rational and robust standard. If we can't do it as a nation, we might as well get in line now for our collective Darwin Awards.
