CAFE Standards?
Did they raise the CAFE standards in the Energy Bill that was debated this week?

I read somewhere that even a slight increase of a mile or 2 a gallon in Fuel efficiency can save a lot of oil.

1. No
And Carl Levin made it sure that it would not be raised.

He even asked Cantwell to add a line to this effect in her amendment before he voted yes (the amendment was not voted anyway).

3. The Levin family is an old Southfield Michigan family
Edited on Sat Jun-18-05 12:57 PM by Coastie for Truth
The family's law firm represents the Ford Motor Company.

Did you know - John Conyers is a major, multi-site, multi-franchise auto dealer. Conyers Ford is a major dealership in the Detroit area. I bought my first Toyota from a Toyota dealership owned by the Conyers group.

Did you know that John Dingel's wife is a GM vice president.

Did you know that former Congressman David Bonior is (and was before being elected to Congress) a United Autoworkers staffer.

Ladies and gentlemen, girls and boys -- Michigan is a "one party state"--

THE GMFORDAIMLERCHRYSLERUAW PARTY

BTW - as soon as the leadership of Junk Bond GM and Junk Bond Ford and Daimler Chrysler and the UAW make their collective decision -- the Levin Brothers and Conyers and Dingel will lead the charge for raising CAFE - just like the Maize and Gold of the Wolverines.

<I lived in Michigan for eight years.>

4. That's Maize and BLUE!
Despite the fact that non-Detroit area Michiganders despise the Detroit-area folks (who sometimes insist that they live in Southeast Michgan, not the Detroit area) and always have, the auto industries have enormous pull, especially in the Democratic Party.

However, the decline of the auto industry and the rise of Amway and other businesses in religious, conservative Western Michigan give it the flavor of a one and a half party state sometimes now.
