German Military Braces for Scarcity After ‘Peak Oil’

A study by a German military think tank leaked to the Internet warns of the potential for a dire global economic crisis in as little as 15 years as a result of a peak and an irreversible decline in world oil supplies.

The study was produced by the Future Analysis department of the Bundeswehr Transformation Center, a branch of the German military. It was leaked in August, and its authenticity was confirmed last week by the German newspaper Der Spiegel.

The study states that there is “some probability that peak oil will occur around the year 2010 and that the impact on security is expected to be felt 15 to 30 years later.”

3. Now, who wanted this leaked?

Leaks like this are almost NEVER by accident. Someone in the German High Command, German Political leadership or the US Military Command wanted it leaked?

Since 1954, when what was then West Germany was permitted to re-arm, the West German Army was either under NATO (and thus US Command and Control) AND so tied up with the US Military as to be a Branch of the US Military. This had both good and bad side affects. The good side affects meant that the German Military was NOT completely "Free" as had been the German Army prior to WWI (and to a degree after WWI through WWII). The rest of Europe could accept German Rearmament since the US controlled its actual use (via NATO). The bad parts was as an integral part of NATO it could force an offensive policy as to combat with Russian and the Warsaw Pact. This made the Russians even more paranoid and thus increased tensions between 1954 and the rearmament of West Germany and 1989 when the Soviet Union ran out of money and collapsed.

Back to the subject. I went into the above for the German Army, while more independent then it was before 1989 (A few years ago the German even raised a military and did NOT commit it to NATO. i.e. NOT under indirect US Command via NATO), the German Military has extensive connections with the US Military (The West Germans even maintaining an Air Base in the American South West so that their pilots can learn to fly quicker, i.e. very few rainy days so Pilots learning to fly can fly more often). As a favor to the Pentagon the German Military may have done the study and leaked it. The German Military may also have done it on its own, and it may be the result of an understanding between the people who do these types of studies all the time in both militarilies (i.e. the Colonels in the Pentagon and their equivalent in the German Army, who do the long range research and planning wanted this out, just to prepare the West for the concepts behind it, especially the US which is much more dependent on oil then Europe).
