A Landslide Victory: California's Prop 23 Voted Down

In a tough night for renewable energy in America, this is something clean energy enthusiasts and environmentalists can hang their hat on.


California residents overwhelmingly voted against Proposition 23, one of the most high profile environmental measures on any ballot in yesterday's U.S. midterm election.

Prop 23, which would have repealed California's ambitious AB 32 climate legislation, was voted down with a 59% "no" vote. Millions of dollars were funneled into campaigns both for the proposition and against it.

2. Fun battle

It was a fun battle.

I will sheepishly admit that the BP blow out in the Gulf did a lot take down "Big Oil's" credibility. Tesla moving its manufacturing into the abandoned NUMMI plant was a plus.

3. Wild Indeed

This proposition created some of the fiercest debates and local engagement in the election that I came across. It was great to see so many people come out and stand with an environmental policy. To me, that shows there is a shift happening in society. I really think it is a matter of time before national energy policy is passed -- it may end up being watered down, but at least the ball will continue to roll.
