From http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/4320957/Bethune-plans-new-protest-boat">Stuff Kiwi anti-whaling campaigner Pete Bethune is developing a new multimillion-dollar vessel to replace the Ady Gil, formerly Earthrace, which sank in the Southern Ocean after a politically-charged protest earlier this year.
Mr Bethune spent four months in a Japanese prison this year for his part in the protest, which ended with Ady Gil's sinking after a collision with a Japanese whaling boat. Now he has his sights set on building a new ocean-going boat, capable also of heading up rivers, from which to promote marine conservation around the world.
He has also shifted his focus to fresh protest waters in the north Atlantic and is scheduled to go to the Faroe Islands, between the Shetland Islands and Iceland, during next year's northern summer, at the invitation of conservationists there. He aims to raise awareness of the annual whale slaughter in these islands, which dates back centuries. There is increasing international pressure to stop it, Mr Bethune said.
...
He said Mr Loomes, a director of Lomocean, would play a key role in the development of the new vessel, which has a development budget of up to US$10 million (NZ$12.6m). It will be partially funded by American businessman Ady Gil, who was behind Mr Bethune's Southern Ocean mission. Fuck yeah.
