"British Prime Minister Tony Blair says it is not possible to persuade the United States to implement the Kyoto Protocol on climate change.
"There is no point in setting a task that is not achievable," Blair said. "Obviously there is a disagreement over the Kyoto treaty and you are not going to resolve that disagreement."
Blair added, however, that there were key points on which both sides agreed. "The important thing is that we at least agree that we move over time toward a low-carbon economy, that curbing greenhouse gas emissions is an important part of that and that it's important that we act with some sense of immediacy."
Blair is making the battle against climate change a key part of the G8 summit to be held July 6-8 in Gleneagles, Scotland."
