I use the cigarette lighter cable in my car to charge my phone all the time. If I had a Volt, I'd do the same. A powermat would be a lot easier.
Compared to the 16kWh battery in the Leaf, filling the 2Wh battery in the typical phone is negligible. The stereo probably draws more power.
