Ford unveils 2012 Focus Electric (video)

and their design team nails it again, with IMO the best looking consumer (under $50,000) EV yet.



"We've seen the newly revealed 2012 Ford Focus Electric stealing the spotlight at this year's CES in Vegas and it looks like a class act standing still on the stage. The B-roll footage gives us a glimpse of what will likely be the first serious all-electric from Detroit in its natural habitat, the urban landscape. electric to go 100 miles. How much gas does $2 buy?

9. For us to go to the store and back takes at least a gallon of gas at todays price of $2.89

a gallon. That 2 to 3 dollars of electric to go up to a hundred miles sure does look like a good deal to me anyway a person wants to look at it.

12. Ford is out in front on pricing

The new Lincoln hybrid is the same price as the conventional model $32,000. Most companies put a 5 grand premium on hybrids.

5. A Kia barely beat out a Focus in 2006 when I bought

By 2012, if I'm still here, the electric Focus might win.

They're really nice little cars. Ford has been stupid in not promoting them more.

8. Focuses seem like they're hit or miss.

There's a lot of bad reviews of them online, but some owners love them. I was considering buying a Focus for my electric-conversion project.

In any case, there will probably be little in common with gas Focuses and the new electric one - except for the name.

10. Didn't I read where ford said that they EV version of their EV's would for be the same

as the gas powered ones for all intents and purposes except one will be powered by an electric motor and the other a gas engine but other than that they would not be discernible one from the other

A ford focus is one fine automobile by anyones discretion. And the beauty part is it is an American automobile built by an American auto company.

If you think of where I'd be interested.

I currently own four Fords: a 2002 Ford Taurus, a 1995 Ford Windstar, and a 2010 Escape Hybrid, which is the best car I've ever had. It turns itself off at stoplights. :)

And my 1997 Ford Aspire, a rebranded Kia Avella which I've gutted and converted to electric power. So there's probably not one nut or bolt Ford can take credit for.

I'm selling the Taurus and the Windstar to buy a Nissan Leaf. Already ordered it, but probably would have waited for the Focus. They're good cars.

6. What's to stop someone from being a prick and just unplugging this?

Are these charging stations linked specifically to the car of the person whose card is read?

7. You mean, and plugging it in their own car?

I would think once it's unplugged that "charge" is over, and another card swipe would be required to restart.

There's no lock, so there's nothing to stop someone from being a prick. Or keying your car, for that matter.

At least I think it's Android. It was a Samsung phone...

I'm assuming that's a feature of the charging station, not the car though.
