First of all, is the Pacific season already up to "M"? Or is their naming system different?
Second, I can't believe the rain these things are causing in Asia. 21 inches in 24 hours?? Another city shut down?
Typhoon Matsa is heading into the east coast of China, south of Shanghai, with top sustained winds of 85 mph and producing torrential rainfall - leading to landslides/mudslides and overflowing raging rivers. Although the center of circulation never made landfall over the island of Taiwan, the circulating outer bands of Matsa produced torrential rainfall (triggering landslides) and strong winds which forced schools, financial markets, and offices to close on Friday. Weather observations in Taipei, Taiwan indicate that an astounding 21 inches of rain fell over the city on Friday while an even more amazing 47 inches fell over the mountains of northern Taiwan.
