Gas Price Spike Act Will Lower Gas Prices

WASHINGTON - August 11 - With gas prices skyrocketing out of control in Northeast Ohio
and nationwide, Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH), today, renewed his fight to pass
HR 2070, The Gas Price Spike Act of 2005. The legislation, introduced by Kucinich in May,
currently is co-sponsored by 37 Members of Congress.

The bill will address the spike in the price of gasoline by placing a windfall profits tax on oil
companies; giving tax credits for the purchase of ultra efficient vehicles; and provide federal
grants to reduced mass transit fares.

“Consumers in Northeast Ohio, and nationwide, are being gouged at the pump,” stated
Kucinich. “The only thing rising faster than the price of gasoline right now is the
skyrocketing profits of the oil companies.”

“Congress can no longer sit on the sidelines and watch as skyrocketing prices continue to
take a heavy economic toll on consumers and risks further harming our economy,”
continued Kucinich. “Congress must act immediately upon returning in September, and I am
renewing my efforts to pass HR 2070, and bring immediate relief to consumers.”

1. As usual, Dennis Kucinich tells it like it is!

And as usual, he hits the damn nail right on the head. This man is to be commended and hopefully emulated by others in Congress.

2. Congress isn't 'sitting on the sidelines and watching' as prices go up

Many of them are actively profiting from it in the form of bribes and other graft from the petro-industry.

I salute and support Dennis Kucinich's efforts, but have little hope of legislative success on this.

5. I wrote my Rethug Rep about this back in June

Last March, I went to a townhall meeting with my Republican Rep, Tom Latham, and he talked about gas prices, renewable energy, ethanol, wind power, mass transit. So when I saw this bill, I wrote him a letter and reminded him of what he said back in March and it fit right into what this bill does. He wrote a nice letter back to me. Latham is a DeLay Drone, so I am not sure if DeLay will let him vote for it, but I think Latham might.

One would like it if the inspiration for conservation was good citizenship, but Americans are very poor citizens of the planet.
