Tsuruga reactor to be halted Sat. to check rise in radiation levelTSURUGA (Kyodo) -- Japan Atomic Power Co. said Friday it will manually halt a reactor at its nuclear power plant in Tsuruga, Fukui Prefecture, on Saturday to look into the causes of higher levels of radioactive substances found in coolant water Monday.
Although the higher levels are far below the company's standards for halting nuclear reactors, the company is taking the precautionary measure due to the ongoing crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant devastated by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
Japan Atomic Power found Monday that the concentrations of iodine-133 and xenon-133 in the No. 2 reactor's primary coolant had risen sharply from the previous check and later found that the level of iodine-131 had also increased about fourfold....
