West Coast States Unite on Car Regulations
West Coast States Unite on Car Regulations

By BRAD CAIN, Associated Press Writer Sun Aug 21, 3:01 PM ET

SALEM, Ore. - Despite an effort by auto industry lobbyists to kill
the move, two Pacific Northwest States — Oregon and Washington — are
getting ready to adopt California's new vehicle emission standards to
reduce greenhouse gases.

When that happens, California's newly implemented emissions standards
— the toughest in the country — will be in effect along the entire
West Coast from Canada to Mexico.

By 2016, all new cars, SUVs and light trucks sold in the West Coast
states would have to comply with the tougher standards on emissions
of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, which are believed to be
a leading cause of global warming. The 2016 date was set to give
automakers plenty of time to comply with the new standards.

At least six states in the Northeast are also moving to adopt
California's new tailpipe standards to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions from cars.

1. 2016? By then it's too late.
I think if everyone's still driving in 2010, it'll be a miracle.

3. The sky isn't falling that fast my friend.
The long term trends aren't that good but we'll still be driving ten years from now though hopefully with significantly most efficent vehicles.

4. Where did you come from?

Just wondering, cause you seem to not be up to speed on the latest "tipping point" indications.

6. You do realise there is such a thing as reality, right?
100 miles per gallon is the "bare minimum"? Cut back on the weed my friend you are losing it. ;)
