Christie said these successes include his opposition to oil or liquefied natural gas drilling off New Jersey’s coastline and the bills he recently signed into law that aim to boost the Barnegat Bay’s health, environmental issues on which he said his views have been steadfast. "I’m happy to report that we’ve done what we said we would do in a manner that’s forthright," Christie said.
But the New Jersey Sierra Club has a different view of Christie’s environmental record, calling his address "hypocritical" and "green cover" for an effort to dismantle 30 years of environmental protections in the Garden State.
For example, a new rule allows the state Department of Environmental Protection to waive compliance with many of its regulations, said New Jersey Sierra Club Director Jeff Tittel, creating loopholes for polluters and developers. "The governor is pandering to the right, while at the same time trying to look a little bit green even though he is doing the opposite," Tittel said.

The governor’s office could not be reached tonight to respond to Tittel’s criticism of Christie’s environmental record.
