IBEW finagling may help Republicans scuttle solar roofs bill.

"According to Adam Browning of the solar advocacy group, the Vote Solar Initiative, while the requirement for C-10 was dropped for current installers, a separate provision was added that defines electrical work as "anything that connects an electrical device of 100 volt/amps." In the solar context, under this provision people putting simple snap connects on solar panels would have to be electricians. He added, however, that the current grandfathered C-46 installers not necessarily be subject to this provision."

1. No problem - Just specify multiple connections
2 100V 50A connections, instead of one 100A.

Seriously, who made this amendment? A Reptilican?

2. Heheh.

Good call. Just have multiple connections to a bus bar near the power box, then you only need the C-10 for the grid tie-in.

Unfortunately panels are most economical at > 100W peak, so either way it's going to hurt the wallet of installees. Unless the companies do the smart thing and provide separate sub-100W connectors on the panels.
