Anybody have ideas for the most energy efficient stove?

1. Vermont Castings

or Jotul - I have had both of them, and they are excellent, very efficient and give lots of heat. (wood burning types)

My "Vigilant" worked excellent for years. I miss burning wood!

3. A woodstove for heating or a kitchen stove?

I wasn't quite clear! ;-)

If it's a kitchen stove, DOE's website has some energy-efficiency guides that are pretty good.
