2. You only post this now?
Edited on Wed Sep-14-11 08:25 AM by Javaman
I have been posting this for over 3 years.

How can you say it's junk science when it's nothing more than links from around the web?

I have always respected your views, but your comment is really weird and without basis.

3. I've been saying it for a considerable time.
They have some good content, but the amount of garbage that is posing as legitimate analysis is growing by leaps and bounds. While the specific page you've posted is links, readers should be warned that the site hosts a huge amount of content that is trash.

4. And like I said, I have posted this for over 3 years and this is the only comment you have
ever made to one of my posts.

while you choose to hold that belief, I have never once seen you write that position in this forum once.

I read all your posts.

5. Thank you but...
Apparently you've missed quite a few.

Here is a very recent one.

6. So you point out 1 article, ONE article out of the many hundreds that are
posted on the oil drum via the link I provide and that is your proof?

Look, for whatever reason you are wanting to start a pissing match. Not enough coffee, woke up on the wrong side of bed, whatever, but frankly, I think you are stretching yourself very thin here.

I honestly don't know what you are after here, but your basis is very very very weak.

Let's call it a day. I'm not going to stop posting this link and you can go back to making your one beef every 3 years and use that as your "evidence" against my posts, okay?

talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.

Prior to this very odd exchange, I was one of your biggest supporters and defenders.

Sadly, I'm beginning to question that.

7. I've ALWAYS been highly critical of TOD - ask GG.
I see your response to my opinion as a complete over-reaction. Do you not see the damage that sites like that do to the level of understanding among the general public by legitimizing junk science?

How do you think the climate deniers have been so successful at cultivating false beliefs recently?

8. Who the hell is GG and why does that matter? You only gave me one link.
Over reaction? No, I just find it really odd that you chose after 3+ years to only now start this pissing match.

Look, we're done.

And while I don't agree with everything the oil drum puts out, they also put out great stuff.

You can criticize the oil drum all the you want, I don't give a flying fuck, but I won't stop posting the link just because you, the only one so far to express a problem with it, complain.

You have lost my support.

10. The Oil Drum is a junk science website.
Edited on Wed Sep-14-11 10:04 AM by kristopher
The entire premise of the website promotes the false belief that there are no substitutes for a carbon based energy system; that makes it a junk science website every bit as much as a climate denier website that "also puts out great stuff".

I already said that they do post some good work, but that comes under the heading of the best lies being built on kernels of truth; it certainly doesn't validate the central thesis of the website.

In all of your replies you've tried to lay claim to some sort of personal allegiance as a guide to what science is valid or not. It is unfortunate for us all that some people think that tribalism and science are the same thing. Truly, it is unfortunate.

GG is Glider Guider, a longtime regular on DUEE - see the link at post #5.

11. Finally, a reasonable reply.
I can work with that.

your original blanket statements were ridiculous.

I'm not so unreasonable to see your point.

However, the oil drum still does post good stuff and as a result I will still be posting their link.

The link I post is a "round up", they do not support nor deny any sort of stance. They are simply a round up of the previous days stories in regards to the fossil fuel, alt energy, climate change, etc.

As such, I will continue to post the link.

In regards to their original single pieces by either their staff writers or stringers, I don't post that stuff because like I stated, I don't agree with everything they post and by posting individual articles by particular authors, that would only give them credence to their particular stance.

So again, I will continue posting from the the semi-daily link and while I don't agree with everything they say, the "round up" is still a good read.
