Just ordered a Prius today
Winter's coming and I don't know if my 20 year old Saab will make it through another without some new parts. My Saab guy told me they don't sell some of the parts anymore since it is so old. 225,000 miles so it doesn't owe me anything but I sure hate to let it go.

The Toyota sales man said the wait list is two or three months now.

1. I had an 86 900S. What a dependable ride. Nice feel. Only thing that
went was water pump and the AC... and some stupid electrical stuff. What a trunk/hatchback on that car. And as old as it was, it was never embarassing to valet park, always cool.

6. Prius
I have a 2003 -- before they changed to hatchbacks. I just love, love, love it! My dh says I should get a new car in a couple of years, but I'm holding on to this Prius until the wheels fall off. I'm getting 44 miles right now, but when winter comes that usually goes up to 50 because I'm not running the A/C. (Living in Maryland, A/C is worth the cost.)

Anyway, best wishes for happy driving!

9. I'm thinking I'll be hanging onto my 2002.
Even though most of the cool hacks are for the hatchback, I think the Classic like you and I have is destined to become the "VW beetle" of the hybrid car generation. They won't be as prolific, but they are damn funny ugly and I'm betting they'll last for a good long time and keep a decent resale value as a collectible.

12. Hanging on to your Prius
You said "I'm betting they'll last for a good long time" -- I'm betting that as well. Toyotas do tend to survive just about everything, so long as you do required maintenance. We had a truck that went for 165,000 with only a little body rust which we kept in check. We only got rid of it because we added to our family and no dog of mine rides in the bed. I've owned other brands but keep returning to Toyota.

7. I ordered mine in July - they said it should be here next week!
I'm more excited about this than when I bought my first (and forever ONLY) Corvette. The fact that I'm paying cash could also have something to do with it. Never was able to do that before.

8. Once you get one, you will love it. 80 mph getting 40+ mpg!
$29 to fill up with a 400+ mile cruising range and that is here in Southern California.

We were told it would take six months to receive our car but that turned into two weeks. The car is very easy to drive. Off the line is not the cars forte but once you get moving a little the car will take off right up to 130.7 mph (so says the advertisement).

Good luck and enjoy!

10. See if you can move the close date past Jan 1.

....You'll get a great tax credit if you close the sale after the end of this tax year.

If you think your Saab can hack it, that is.

Congrats on buying a hybred vehicle. Now if only the idiots would build more E85 vehicles things would be alot better.

13. Your saab guy is full of crap
If you want to keep your Saab on the road (perhaps as a second car), get thee to www.saabnet.com, the internet home of us Saabophiles. There's plenty of parts for an '85 900, for example from recyclers: www.goldwingsaab.com or www.eeuroparts.com for new stuff.

Hey, if you want me to take it away for free near Mass. I'll take it :-)

14. A spark of hope!
Thanks for the encouragement. I really don't want to say goodbye to The Blue (we called it that when telling the kids which car to get into, my wife's car was The Red).

Though I'm not much of a mechanic, I truly appreciate the genius of Saab for durability and longevity.

My wife will be the one driving the Prius, I was going to inherit her Camry. But I have been thinking of keeping the Saab.

You have just convinced me that we really do have room for it in the driveway and maybe the Camry can just sit in the garage as the backup while I go for 300K! (or the Camry can sit in the driveway).

15. great!
Saabnet.com is a fantastic resource with scores of helpful people. I post over there on occasion (I own a 9-5 wagon and possibly have a 9000 in my future) but stick to car-related stuff. DU is for politices :-)

16. take it from me- you will love it - but learn your blind spots
I managed to run right into a pole leaving a parking lot on saturday night. Scraped and dented my back bumper and fender.

Otherwise I love my Prius!!!

There is a break in period- your mileage might start out at around 45 MPG but it gets better the longer you drive it.
