Hops returns to western NY, 75 years after prohibition killed it:

2. I was just thinking, prohibition only lasted 13 years...
but 3 or 4 generations later we're still recovering from the after effects.

3. They have a large hops garden at the Sierra Nevada brewery
It doesn't supply all their hops needs, but they do make specialty brews with the homegrown stuff.

I am totally impressed with the eco-friendliness of their operation. They've got a massive solar panel array, they try to get as much stuff as possible locally sourced, and so forth, but they DON'T use environmental friendliness as an excuse to slack off.

Also, since they're my local brewery, buying their beer saves on shipping emissions. :D

4. I love SN brews.
But I can't get them very often in Canada.

I just had a couple of bottles of Rogue Double Dead Guy, though. It was dark, bitter and very intense. A perfect beer to toast the coming dieoff.

5. One of our local breweries has supported this "craze" for some time.
Unfortunately, the hops production in Wisconsin hasn't grown to meet current demands. Perhaps, in time, they'll be able to have a brew with hops grown exclusively in WI. They do, however, they brew several beers that use only locally grown barley.

Really progressive brewery with a solar hot water system to pre-heat water for the brewing process reducing energy consumption and saving big $.

Oh, and they make a bunch of really tasty beers too.

7. I'm growing Nugget, Chinook, Magnum and
fuggle. They produce very well. I haven't done anything with them except trade some to a friend for some of his home brewed beer.
