My wife and I got a bit of lunch at The Corner Bakery Cafe, a franchised restaurant chain that is in about 11 states (if you count Washington DC). The food was great and the service was excellent and the place was spotless... yada, yada, yada.
No, that's not what I'm writing about.
I looked around the place and noticed something unusual:
1. Every light bulb in the place was an LED light bulb.
2. The design of the restaurant made great use of daylighting.
2.a. They even had a cupola with windows and awnings perfectly oriented.
3. The awnings above the windows were the perfect size and angle for Texas (to let in winter sun but block out summer sun)
3.a. That's part of passive solar green building techniques.
I was so impressed that I asked for a manager and thanked her, gave them two thumbs up for the green cred.
PS, I'm not in construction but I think cupola is the proper term, except that it was about 15' x 15' and cupolas are usually pretty small.
