More evidence links pesticides, diabetes

Reuters - People with relatively high levels of certain pesticides in their blood may have an increased risk of type 2 diabetes -- particularly if they are overweight, a new study suggests.

The study, reported in the journal Diabetes Care, is not the first to link chemical pollutants to diabetes.

A number of studies have found a connection between diabetes risk and exposure to older pesticides known as organochlorines, PCBs and other chemicals that fall into the category of "persistent organic pollutants."

Organochlorines are now banned or restricted in the U.S. and other developed countries, after research linked them to cancer and other potential health risks. PCBs, which were once used in everything from appliances to fluorescent lighting to insecticides, were banned in the 1970s.

However, as the name suggests, persistent organic pollutants remain in the environment for years and build up in animal and human body fat. ..cont'd

disrupter.

No surprise at all here.

4. Certainly could be me. I sprayed DDT in our barns many times. Not

to mention other chemicals.

5. How is your health?

We did many things in our ignorance of the potentials for harm.
I can remember playing in the DDT fog that was sprayed by trucks in my neighborhood to erradicate mosquitos.

6. Well I have diabetes, have had several benign lumps removed but

otherwise I am doing pretty good. I always tell my doctors to look for the things that farm chemicals are known to cause as I was in the center of it. Sooner or later I am probably going to pay for it. My disabled daughter was probably caused by farm chemical runoff into the wells in our area. No one is drinking out of them anymore.

At least a lot of it has stopped.
