Harry Reid to Hillary Clinton: Drop Keystone XL Pipeline Plan

Opponents of the Keystone XL pipeline have gained a new ally in the fight to prevent this disastrous oil boondoggle from moving forward: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D–NV).

Earlier this month, Sen. Reid sent a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urging her to abandon the pipeline and instead focus on renewable energy. The Washington Post provided an excerpt of Reid’s letter to Clinton:

The proponents of this pipeline would be wiser to invest instead in job-creating clean energy projects, like renewable power, energy efficiency or advanced vehicles and fuels that would employ thousands of people in the United States rather than increasing our dependency on unsustainable supplies of dirty and polluting oil that could easily be exported.

3. There is no way that the energy that this pipeline would deliver

Will make up for its environmental impact. I think most of everyone who examines the situation comes away with a dread of what the project would do to the largest and one of the purest aquifers that provides drinking and irrigation water for eight states.

Plus, although the proponeents of this energy source say it burns cleaner, our cars are not equipped to use it.

And the route of the pipeline shows us that the energy resource is intended for the super tankers that await it in the Gulf of Mexico.

4. I don’t get the opposition to this pipeline

As long as the price of oil stays high the tar sands will be developed-there is no stopping that. Without a pipeline this oil will be shipped via trucks trains and boats-you really think that method is safer?
