First Wind has begun construction on its 105-megawatt (MW) Eastern Washington wind farm.
First Wind, a Boston-based wind energy company, has begun construction on the 105-megawatt (MW) Palouse Wind project, situated on private land between the town of Oakesdale and U.S. 195, south of Spokane. The project will be the largest renewable energy plant in Whitman County, with the capacity to generate enough electricity to power about 30,000 homes.

...

First Wind expects to begin erecting the wind turbines in spring 2012. During peak construction, the project will employ about 200 workers, the company said. Energy produced at the facility will be purchased by Avista, which is required under Washington’s Renewable Energy Standard to source 15 percent of its power from renewable resources by 2020.

First Wind specializes in the development, financing, construction, ownership and operation of utility-scale wind projects in the United States. The company owns 695 MW of operating wind plants in the Northeast, Utah and Hawaii, with an additional 181 MW under construction.

1. Happy to read this and similar articles
Now they need to figure out the engineering issues with the ocean turbines they're looking at and get solar panel creation and maintenance costs down low enough to make that worthwhile. At which point I'm going to breathe a huge sigh of relief because it will start to look like maybe we can get away from our current sources of energy and that we're not doomed after all.

2. I have a lot of faith in the Human ability to pull our fat out of the fire at the last minute
Thanks to Ronald Reagan and his idiotic policy of going under the desk for oil companies we don't have the luxury for slow and methodical studies and prototyping. We have to make the switch over to renewable energy and get it done fast or we won't be having a 2100 anniversary celebration.

Let the idiots at Faux News bleet on about the Solyndra failure. There dozens of companies that got help under that loan program and one of them is going to be the leader in getting us off of fossil fuel addiction.

PS, GE and Siemens have already figured out the ocean wind turbines, 10 MegaWatts of power and no gear box to break.

3. Oh nice
Last article I read they were having some issues with the ocean turbines.

I certainly hope you're right about us humans, though. Well, except on those days when I'm so fed up with our species that I really don't care.

4. If you can trust anybody... you can trust some anonymous guy from Texas!
Just kidding.

I've made it to my 50s and I haven't lost faith in Mankind yet. Certain subgroups, yes; but Humans on average, not on your life.

I've always said that there are only a small percentage of bad eggs that make life miserable for the rest of us. I thought they were the lowlife criminals who pack the jails. Little did I know that it was the favored few who run Wall Street, the IMF and the Global Monetary Fund who are the true psychopaths we have to ward against!

5. I'd trust you before I'd trust the aforementioned lowlifes in power
But that's not exactly saying much!
